Recreational Membership
Recreational membership allows experienced rowers to row on their own schedule within rowing hours with a buddy. Recreational members get access to designated FVRA sculling boats, including recreational or racing 1x and 2x, based on skill level, that can be signed out using our online booking system. All rec. members need to be able to pass the FVRA sculling safety checklist (https://fvra.org/safety/) and be approved, or previously approved, by an FVRA coach if they would like to scull. Rec. members can also join as a drop-in rower to any sweep program as space allows at no additional cost.
Club boats are booked online on a first come first served basis and certain days and times may be limited due to other sculling specific programs that need use of boats. Boat booking access is only provided once registration is received and the member is approved by a coach.
Purchasing your own inflatable PFD is recommended however the club has some available for use during rows when a coaching launch will not be on the water. PFDs are required until May 31st but always recommended when rowing without a coaching launch. Please see CT DEEP Life Jackets for more information.

Coached Sculling Membership
A Coached Sculling Membership provides sculling focused rowers the opportunity for structured feedback in a small group setting. As part of coached sculling, in addition to all recreational membership privileges and requirements (as listed above), members can join 2 coached rows a week. These 2 hour sessions (roughly 1-1 ½ hours on the water with 30 min for equipment prep/breakdown) will focus on specific areas of the stroke through drills, demos and direct feedback. Rowers may be in a variety of boats over the course of the season from 1x – 4x depending on participation and individual rower goals. One session a week will be group drill work and the second will be more individually focused with the option for video feedback.
Launch use will be determined by the coach based on the day’s focus and number of participants. Rowers joining a coached sculling session should be prepared to work in a group and stay in the general vicinity of the coach throughout the row. The overall goal of the Coached Sculling Membership is to foster a supportive community of growth for all levels of scullers while allowing individual rowers to set season or year long goals.
The season long rowing schedule, individual rower/day sign up and communication will be managed through the use of the sportsYou app. New members will be invited once registration is received.
This membership level is limited to 6 rowers to ensure adequate time and attention can be given to each participant. Ideally there is a minimum of 3 participants per season to foster the best group learning experience. Additional spots may be made available throughout the year based on interest level and additional coach availability.
